PRP Q & A

What is PRP?

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is a regenerative medicine treatment made from the platelets and plasma in your blood. A platelet is a type of cell that contains growth factors that can repair damaged tissues.

To make PRP, Dr. Alvi puts a sample of your blood in a centrifuge. The device spins at an extremely high speed, separating the platelets and plasma from the other parts of your blood. The concentrated PRP is then ready to inject back into your body.

PRP was first used to heal wounds and treat sports injuries. It’s now widely used for a variety of purposes, from aesthetics (cosmetic surgery) to sexual dysfunction.

What conditions can PRP treat?

PRP is an effective treatment for conditions like:

Erectile dysfunction

If you have erectile dysfunction, it means you’re experiencing regular problems getting an erection or keeping an erection going. There are various possible causes for erectile dysfunction, from psychological issues to blocked blood vessels and low testosterone levels.

Peyronie’s disease

Peyronie’s disease is an abnormally curved penis when it’s erect. It usually develops if there’s scar tissue pulling on one area of your penis, so it can’t straighten properly. Peyronie’s disease can cause pain when you have an erection. Also, men can find the shape of their erect penis embarrassing.

What can I expect from PRP therapy?

After receiving PRP therapy, you should be able to get harder erections. Your erections should develop more quickly and last longer, improving your sexual stamina.

If you have pain in your penis due to Peyronie’s disease, PRP therapy can help straighten it and relieve your pain. Erections should then be more comfortable.

PRP therapy can also improve blood flow and increase sensitivity in your penis.

How does PRP therapy work?

PRP therapy works by stimulating tissue growth. The growth factors and other proteins in your blood’s platelets activate stem cells in your body. Stem cells are unique because they can turn into whatever kind of cells your body needs to repair itself.

When you injure yourself, stem cells and growth factors get to work healing the damage and creating new cells.

In some cases, you might not have enough of these healing cells to fully repair the damaged tissues. Or scar tissue can build up and form painful connections between areas of soft tissue.

Giving your body a boost with PRP magnifies the healing power of your body so it can do a thorough job.
